The Art of Eating
It is in fact an art requiring the utmost respect for and knowledge of Italian history, culture, and the food itself. Not many people are educated and aware of the differences of regional Italian cuisine and it is our goal to create a cultural Italian environment of enjoyment and learning.
Meals are seen as a time to spend with family and friends instead of immediate sustenance. During holidays, many family feasts will last for hours, if not the entire day. Today, most regular daily meals consists of just 3-4 courses, but a comprehensive, culturally specific Italian meal includes:
1. Aperitivo: An alcoholic drink enjoyed as an appetizer befote a large meal
2. Antipasti: Hot or cold appetizers
3. Primo: First course, usually hot and filling, like pasta, risotto, or gnocchi
4. Secondo: The main dish, usually fish or meat
5. Contorno: The side dish, usually a salad or cooked vegetables
6. Formaggio e Frutta: The first dessert, usually cheeses and fruits
7. Dolce: A sweet dessert, such as cakes and cookies
8. Caffe: Espresso
9. Digestivo: an alcoholic drink in the form of liquor or liqueur
